Over And Over Again
-------------------

The whip-poor-will is noted for its distinctive song, which it sings
over and over again.

In fact this repetition compulsion was once tracked by naturalist John
Burroughs, who claimed to have heard one of these birds sing the same
refrain 1,088 times without stopping.

That's the end of the official story. But according to the bird lovers
underground, it was enough to make Burroughs snap. On the 1,088th
repetition, the old man began to laugh hysterically, cursed the bird and
shot it.
